PPP Carbohydrate Competence Center

In February 2009, the Ministry of Economic Affairs launched the Carbohydrate Competence Center (CCC) in the north of the Netherlands. This centre is for knowledge, development and innovation of carbohydrates and carbohydrate applications.

The question

The decision made prior to this related to the viability of a centre in the north of the Netherlands in the field of carbohydrate innovations. Various public and private involved parties were aware of the knowledge and experience in the north of the Netherlands in the field of carbohydrates. InnoTact was asked to provide a framework for the cooperation between knowledge institutes and the business sector.

What InnoTact did

The probabilities and starting points of a carbohydrate centre were defined by analysing the footholds for innovation in the industrial carbohydrate processing process and the key trends and activities related to carbohydrates.

Positioning, focus and activities were selected for a concept of the carbohydrate centre in such a way that the joint ambition of this public-private partnership could actually be realised.

The result

The added value of the involved parties was shown to its full advantage in a detailed innovation programme with business model. InnoTact actively approached relevant companies and knowledge institutes. Following a successful viability phase, insight was also provided into the finances and the financing options during the definition phase of the intended centre.
