The Parelsnoer Initiatief (PSI) focuses on developing a national knowledge infrastructure that will enable large-scale and uniform collection of clinical data, biomaterials and material about clinical pictures, which will be stored for the purpose of medical research. PSI was made possible due to stimulus financing from the Structural Economic Reinforcement Fund and co-financing from the university medical centres. At the end of the project period, the individual 'pearls' will have to continue this by themselves. The management of Parelsnoer asked InnoTact Consulting to guide the pearl coordinates in developing their business case.
InnoTact Consulting held personal discussions with the coordinators of the eight 'pearls' to explain the purpose and the process of a business foundation for the 'pearl'. In meetings with the pearl workgroups, InnoTact answered questions posed by medical specialists about the possibility for a pearl to become 'self-sufficient'. InnoTact Consulting developed a format for the business case document. This constitutes the guideline for developing the business case. The pearl coordinator and InnoTact consultants met and interactively identified the major players, defined the sales markets, mapped out the potential risks, arranged for investments and estimated the costs and profits. In certain situations, InnoTact generated the texts, but that depended on the needs of the pearl coordinator.
The various business cases are a good starting point for expanding the pearls. The input of InnoTact Consulting accelerated the process of getting the parties to make serious efforts to operate the pearls after the completion of the project period. The intention is to be able to maintain the pearl and where applicable, to expand it. By the end of the path, the pearl participants became familiar with far more possibilities for being self-sufficient than at the start of the project. At the present time, the pearls are busy including patients and collecting clinical information and bio-materials.
