The question

The initiators asked InnoTact to develop a Life Sciences technology scan in order to catalogue and analyse new market opportunities for a substantial number of SME companies. The technology scan must be a practical instrument. The execution of technology scans at SME companies must make a demonstrable contribution to strengthening the competitive position of the business sector in the north.

What InnoTact did

We identified the companies in the operating area of the initiators that formed the target group for the technology scan.
Explicit aim of the “Life Sciences and Agrifood” project was to improve the knowledge infrastructure in the field of Life Sciences, by intensifying the cooperation between knowledge institutes and business sector and between the individual knowledge institutes.

InnoTact went on to chart the available knowledge at knowledge institutes and companies in the three northerly provinces, and also the form of this available knowledge. We sketched the theoretical framework for the technology scan.

InnoTact developed the actual technology scan with a large number of related questions, which formed the basis for the TNN consultants to clearly determine the purposefulness of a viability study. The technology scan was completed with a letter of introduction for the SME companies to be approached and an instruction for the TNN consultant.

The result

The technology scan enabled TNN to provide practical support to a number of (clusters of) companies during the implementation of Life Sciences within their processing and/or during the development of (sustainable) products with an increased added value.

Recommendations for concrete follow-up actions could be made after the scan was completed.

The use of the technology scan caused an increase in the awareness of companies that the market is moving and that they must incorporate new technologies in order to maintain their competitive force. There was an increase in awareness that the Life Sciences are offering the companies technologies for improving existing products, processes, raw materials and ancillary products and residual materials.
